Welcome to Perfectly Imperfect Obsession

Hello and welcome to Perfectly Imperfect Obsession! I’m V. A. Risby. The V stands for Victoria though I get called Vicky and even V a lot. My preference runs from Victoria to V. I don’t really care for Vicky, but that probably stems from when my brother was young. He couldn’t pronounce my name as he had a bad speech problem. I was either “Hicky” or “Dicky,” which went over so well in a group of friends. So embarrassing.

But that was then.

Now, I’m just me, the woman who has an addictive personality. By that I mean when I get involved in something, it basically becomes my sole focus, my obsession of the moment.

The first one I remember was reading anything and everything that Madeline Baker wrote, which turned into an obsession with reading any western romance novel I could get my hands on. Then I moved on to Mary Higgins Clark and then Dean Koontz. My last major obsession with an author was Johanna Lindsey. Oh, I’ve liked and loved other books and authors, but not to the same degree as these.

However, it hasn’t been all books. I’ve gotten obsessed with decorating for holidays. I went all out decorating my grandmother’s yard for every holiday imaginable, or at least I did until I got my current job. It really cut into that, so I’ve passed the torch on to my Aunt. I’ve been obsessed with cooking, trying to create new recipes to make something tasty. That led to my focus on baking, which eventually led to the great Cheesecake Disaster that we will not talk about. I haven’t baked one since!

And let’s not even talk about my obsession with ink pens. I can never use how many I have. The less said about this fetish, the better!

My obsession turned to writing a long time ago, before the decorating and baking. I’ve written for as long as I can remember. Bits and pieces, poems, songs, novels, anything and everything. Once my daughter was born, I struggled for a bit, trying to find my way back. I turned to fanfic to help find my muse. Getting back into that groove of writing helped me find my voice again.

Dark Secrets was born from this. I’m working on the sequel to that book now. This summer I finished another book, unrelated to Dark Secrets. Writing is the one obsession I’ve held on to for years. Well, that an ink pens, which kind of go hand and hand, lol!

I was never obsessed with writing the perfect guy or something like that. I’ve realized it is obsession over creating a world where someone would want to live, where someone would actually want to be transported to, where a reader could see themselves. That’s what I want; that’s what my mind is constantly filled with, some new place, some scenario, relatable and intriguing characters, something that I hope will transport a reader just as it does me.

And while I’m creating my worlds in books, my latest obsession is taking me to other worlds. Honestly, it’s something I never thought I would get involved in: Otome Games.Yet, I am. Some I love because of the storyline, artwork, and rich characters. A couple I honestly don’t like, but I can’t stop playing until I finish all the routes no matter how cringey I feel they are.

Music, that ranks right up there with writing and ink pens. Again, it all goes hand in hand as I have to have music to write. My Dark Secret characters each have their own playlists, which I'll probably share later. Right now for music, I won't get into the sudden need to listen to K-pop all the time. Well, at least I won't right now. I figure I'll end up posting about it soon. BTS, EXO, if you never have, check out their music!

If you couldn’t tell, when I’m talking—not the me that is focused on writing—I’m random. That’s what my blog will be filled with, my random, ever changing obsessions, and news about my books.

I hope you enjoy the read!
