It's Beginning to Look a lot like Thanksgiving?

Halloween is over, and it well and truly looks like Fall now. It’s been rainy here the past few days, and the leaves are actually very vibrant colors. It’s beautiful.

And now we’re full on into the Christmas season. Hallmark is playing their movies continuously; Christmas commercials are showing on nearly every station. I’ve only seen a couple of Thanksgiving commercials, which makes me sad as I really love Thanksgiving.

I’m never in charge of the meal—we always go to my grandma’s—but there’s something about this time of year. It’s peaceful. It’s not the melee that Black Friday brings or the days in December when it’s hard to even find a parking space at a store. It’s the calm before the storm.

Don’t get me wrong. I love sitting in a room illuminated by a Christmas tree, watching cheesy holiday movies, but I don’t like the mad rush for trying to find gifts or trying to make it to everything in a jammed packed schedule.

So, this is the time of year I relish, but it seems to get overlooked. A lot.

One year, I would like to oversee Thanksgiving dinner, preferably before I’m the grandma. I love baking and cooking, and even though I know I won’t be making the meal, I’ve been looking through recipes and pinning them on a board on Pinterest labeled “Thanksgiving 2018.” I have so many boards, cluttered with recipes that I’ve never made. One of these days, I think I’ll go through and start making the things on them, getting rid of the ones I don’t like. I haven’t started that yet. I think what I’m going to try to do is make everything in my Disney cookbook that I bought the last time I was there.

Two years ago, we went to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. It was wonderful. We ate way too much and tried so many different foods that we never would have had the opportunity to otherwise. My mother, daughter, and I would typically try to buy one of everything a kiosk was selling, and then we would split them, usually ending up just taking one bite as we didn’t want to get too full. I didn’t try as much as them. Being the vegetarian in the group, I wouldn’t sample everything. However, they did, and we got some amazing pictures.

While there I bought a Disney cookbook. I haven’t made anything from it yet, but I really want to. Perhaps that should be my goal when my brother’s family comes down the day after Thanksgiving. Luckily, my daughter and his sons are adventurous when it comes to trying new dishes.

There’s the Disney cookbook and a recipe magazine I bought that is filled with dishes that use pumpkin. Both of those are on my to-do list.

I feel like my to-do list gets longer each day.

In the spirit of accomplishing a goal I’m going to organize my book ideas—that was also on my to-do list. I want to get everything in order so that it’s not overwhelming, plus so I don’t lose something in the chaoticness of my desk.

Determination in hand and with music on, I’m off to get started.

Wish me luck!
